The broom (Ruscus aculeatus), called little holly, prickly broom, hornet holly, hornet, is a sub-shrub with very decorative evergreen foliage, particularly at Christmas time. Its hardiness is excellent.
Very hardy, suckering, rhizomatous, the little holly forms a tuft with erect and branched stems. The leaves are replaced by flattened stems similar to alternate leaves, reduced to a scale, leathery, ending in a sharp point, called "cladodes".
You can cut the stems to integrate them into floral arrangements, particularly as a replacement for holly in end-of-year decorations.

The broom is grown in partial shade or even deep shade in cool, humus-rich soil that is not too rich.
