Beautiful creeping Rosemary plant in a light 20 cm pot.

This rosemary with its prostrate and creeping habit is an excellent evergreen ground cover for rockeries and dry embankments. Planted above a low wall, it will fall in large draperies of more than 1m, covered with small honey-producing flowers of a light blue-mauve color in spring, then again at the end of summer. Of Mediterranean origin, it is a little chilly, but does not fear the heat, nor the summer drought, nor the rocky and poor soils.

Rosemary is a perfect plant for poor and dry soil, even stony and limestone, perfectly drained in winter. The more the soil is drained, the better the plant tolerates winter. The richer the soil, the faster the rosemary grows, and the more poorly it ages and becomes bare from the base.

It will appreciate a sunny and fairly protected location: rustic, it tolerates -10° but can suffer from a rigorous winter north of the Loire. You should avoid watering it in summer, because it is sensitive to Phytophthora, a fungus which attacks the crown of the plant in hot and humid conditions. You can prune lightly after flowering, to give shape to your rosemary, and maintain a compact and branched shape.

  • Suitable for Rockery
  • Type of use: Border of massif, Tray, Embankment
  • Climate preferably Mediterranean
